This Golf: 33.896€
This Golf: 33.896€

When I arrived at the Longwy’s Golf dealership, the sale representatives who uses the Golf VII as her personal vehicle, is just taking out her baby car seat. Her colleague explains me some of the new functions, and I take little time to put my recording equipment in.

I had some settings to do before I can turn on the engine. As soon as it is done, the engine (2.0-litre and 147 bhp) roars to life. This engine is equipped with the Bluemotion technology, was 9,8 bhp more than the last version but its fuel consumption and gas emission are less important than Golf VI.

In this review, by the shedding up of 100 kg and thanks to technology, its average fuel consumption is 53mpg.

As ever in a Volkswagen car, the handling was easy and instant. Front seats are made of fabric and alcantara with aside lateral supports, which are useful in sport driving. So we are well sit and the driving post is perfect.

Between hands, the tri-spoke steering wheel where are found Bluetooth and radio controls but also the speed regulator and the speed limiting device controls which are called Adaptive Cruise Controls. This last control is represented as a car surrounded by aluminum.

As we drive first kilometers, we have no doubts we are in Golf but which is upgraded. It seems like we are in a superior class of vehicle. But this seventh model is not perfect; we had to speak about the back left retro vision that is bad.

Its driving style is quite good on wet roads as well as on dry road even in higher speed thanks to the technology that let us choose between different type of riding (DCC). This option costs 995 euros.

This trial vehicle is a three-doors and has the design-finishing Carat (the higher finishing of this new Golf). The basic range of features includes wheel rims of 17”, the AAC and the Front assist which contributes to security by prevent crash: the car brakes by himself if there is an obstacle in front as well on road and on highroad. It also includes folding and de-icing rear-view mirror and sport front seats.

Options available are DCC, the metallic painting (570€), directional Xenon-headlights (1,467€), the spare wheel (68€), colored and embedded computer (160€) and the touch-screen navigation Discover Pro (1,606€). On this touch-screen, you can also see around when you are parking, even if a real camera would have been better. You can also have a lot of perfect multimedia options as a DVD drive, a SD drive, an USB plug, an external drive of 64gb or even eight loudspeaker.

In the back, as ever in Golf vehicles, there is place for the tallest of us. Between seats, you have an armrest with two cup-holders and an opening to the trunk usually called passed-through for ski.

Speaking of the trunk, it could contain from 380 liters to 1,270 liters with the rear seats folded flat (from 343 liters to 1,233 liters for the 4Motion version).

This new seventh version of the Golf is upgrading smoothly by adding technologies that were reserved to high models and became multi-purpose. Its aspect of a puncture-proof vehicle assured a nice life till the future eighth model of Golf.

Thanks to Mister Ricotta from the dealership Michel Rolland from Longwy for this trial.
